AI in Scientific Practice: A 2026 Community Assessment
What are your current perceptions on AI?
We want to know how experts' opinions of Artificial Intelligence (AI) are changing over time. This is the third year we have conducted this SciPoll to gather perspectives from scientists and researchers on AI's role in their fields. You can see prior years' results below:
2025: https://app.scipinion.com/scipolls/855
2024: https://app.scipinion.com/scipolls/683
2023: https://app.scipinion.com/scipolls/548
A lot has changed since we first asked these questions in 2023. AI tools are no longer a novelty in most scientific disciplines — they are increasingly part of the day-to-day work of research, teaching, and communication. But broader adoption has not resolved the underlying questions about reliability, appropriate use, and the effect of these tools on the quality of scientific output. This year's poll captures where expert opinion stands after another year of rapid development, and for the first time asks respondents to reflect on whether their views are being shaped primarily by hands-on experience or by the wider discourse around AI. Your insights help build a clearer picture of how the scientific community is actually engaging with these tools — not just how it feels about them.
